Granada International's Comprehensive Slate for NATPE 2005

Granada International will attend NATPE 2005 with a slate of diverse and compelling programming across all genres, it was announced today by Caroline Torrance, Senior Vice President, Americas/Eastern Hemisphere.

Brand new contemporary drama available at NATPE includes Distant Shores, a refreshingly different feel-good series about an arrogant career-obsessed plastic surgeon who has to change his life or lose his family (6 x 60 minutes, Granada TV) and Beneath The Skin (2 x 90 minutes), a tense urban thriller from Granada TV based on the best-selling novel by Nicci French, which sees three women with only one thing in common – a stalker who will stop at nothing, not even murder, to get beneath their skin.

Two new children's drama titles Barking and Best Friends, both live action and targeted to early teens, will also debut at the US market. Barking, a 13 x 30-minute series featuring state-of-the-art puppetry, is centred on a friendship between an 11-year-old girl and her extraordinary talking dog, voiced by Will Mellor (Casualty, Fat Friends, Hollyoaks). A Granada Kids/Catherine Bailey Limited Co-Production.

Best Friends (1 x 108 minutes or 5 x 30 minutes) is a touching and funny drama about friendship from the International Emmy Award-winning producers Granada Kids. Based on the best selling book by children’s author Jacqueline Wilson, it tells the story of Gemma and Alice, who were born on the same day and have been inseparable ever since – until Alice has to move house.

The hugely successful teenage series Girls In Love returns with a further 13 x 30 minute episodes (26 x 30 minutes also available). Produced by Granada Kids and adapted from the best-selling trilogy of books by Jacqueline Wilson, Girls In Love is a comedy drama looking at the angst and excitement of growing up, through the eyes of thirteen-year-old Ellie Allard, a girl with a huge imagination, wicked honesty and fantastic comic insight into the important things in life: friends, fun and kissing boys!

On the factual front, Murder Hotel (1 x 60 minutes, A DMP/ITV West production for five) tells the fascinating and chilling story of America’s first serial killer, HH Holmes of Chicago, featuring a CGI recreation of the elaborate 60-room building he designed to murder around 200 women in the late 19th century.

Also at NATPE is I Survived.... an awe-inspiring series (3 x 60 minutes, Granada TV for five and Discovery International) examining incredible survival stories and revealing the inside story of how and why these people got through life-threatening experiences.

Two titles available as formats and finished programmes are American Princess, an exciting 6 x 1-hour reality format following 10 girls who are flown to the UK to learn to live and behave like princesses, guided and groomed by professionals, with the ultimate prize of being crowned American Princess and the hugely successful Nanny 911. Nanny 911 (16 x 1 hour) follows veteran Head Nanny Lilian and her team of "specialist" nannies – Stella, Deb and Yvonne – who are armed with the dos and don’ts of child-rearing. These diverse and knowledgeable English nannies have specific areas of expertise ranging from proper etiquette to controlling temper tantrums. Each is ready to help exhausted parents tackle the issues creating chaos in their home and whip their families into tip-top shape. It just takes a call to Nanny Central where Nanny Lilian, accompanied by her butler Fraser, reviews the case and assigns the nanny best suited to tackle the challenge at hand.

Also hot from Granada International at NATPE are new Hollywood TV movies including The Dead Will Tell starring Anne Heche (Ally McBeal, Six Days Seven Nights) and Jonathan LaPaglia (The District). When Emily Parker is given an antique engagement ring by her new fiancé Billy, strange things begin to happen. Emily begins to see the ghost of the ring’s previous owner Marie, who disappeared years earlier. Only her severed finger, complete with the ring, was ever discovered. Emily’s "gift" of being able to see the dead may finally help to solve the mystery, but she faces the terrifying prospect that the murderer is closer than she suspected, and that meeting Billy was no accident.

Identity Theft, which rated one of the top ten TV movies in the US in 2004, features Kimberly Williams (Lucky 7, Father of the Bride I and II) and Annabella Sciorra (The Sopranos). Michelle Brown’s life spirals out of control after she is accused of crimes committed by a woman who stole her identity. With no-one believing her, and the authorities refusing to move fast enough, she fights back, taking matters into her own hands and finally facing her nemesis.

In Mind Of The Crime, Jody portrayed by Lauren Holly (What Women Want), is a wife and mother who suspects that her husband is being unfaithful and hires a detective to find proof of the affair. After the detective misleads her, Jodie takes matters into her own hands and discovers a flair for private investigation. But, putting her new-found sleuthing skills to work to help another woman in distress, she finds things get more dangerous than she could have imagined.

Finally, The Unexpected Journey is a heart-warming story of love found in unexpected places. Devoted mother Corrine Morgan (Mary Louise Parker, Red Dragon) sees the diagnosis of her twins’ lifelong disease as a challenge not a life sentence, but is devastated when her boyfriend sees it differently. After a struggle as a single mother with limited work experience, Corrine eventually finds things coming together. But the only thing missing is romance – and that comes from an unlikely source. Has she finally found someone who will be there for her and her boys? Also featuring Aidan Quinn (See You In My Dreams).

Brand new wildlife productions from Granada International at NATPE include Killers in Eden (1 x 60 minutes, ABC Natural History Unit), which investigates claims of an extraordinary relationship between humans and killer whales in a small Australian town named Eden and Cliffhangers (3 x 60 minutes plus 1 x 60 minute special / ORTV for National Geographic Channels Interactive), which charts the amazing relationship between an Australian wildlife biologist and the rare group of primates he has spent five years studying in the spectacular volcanic landscapes of Northern Ethiopia, complete Granada International's line up for NATPE 2004.

Further blue chip drama to debut at NATPE includes four Marple mystery films adapted from the original Agatha Christie stories starring the new Jane Marple – celebrated actress Geraldine McEwan (The Magdalene Sisters, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit). These four beautifully shot 120-minute dramas - The Body in the Library, A Murder is Announced, 4.50 From Paddington and Murder At The Vicarage - feature exceptional international casts and high production values from the team behind the latest and much acclaimed Poirot films. A Granada/WGBH Boston/Agatha Christie Ltd (a Chorion Company) production.

Granada International, is located at Booth No. 451 on the exhibition floor at the Mandalay Bay Hotel at NATPE. The company will be represented in Las Vegas by SVP Caroline Torrance and Granada International’s Los Angeles-based sales team – Glen Hansen, Tania Ussher, Jeri Sacks and John Norman.
